Frequently Asked Questions of the The Load-Shedding Solution

The Load-Shedding Solution

Which household appliances can I plug in?

What should be your Load-Shedding Energy strategy?

The Load-Shedding Solution™ is an energy conservation strategy that combines the right choice of low-power consuming home electrical and electronic appliances and power storage devices. Hence, you are not uncomfortable during load-shedding. At the same time, you do not spend too much money on getting new sources of electricity.

Your strategy should combine gas appliances (heat-generating and, therefore, power-hungry appliances like stoves) and battery power storage devices for low-power-hungry home appliances like your energy-efficient light bulbs, LED TVs, and DSTV decoder, WIFI routers, laptops/computers and more. You must also be conscious when buying new appliances. Ensure your new home appliances or replace old ones with low-power rated home appliances with an Energy Star rating, so your home uses less energy. Less energy use means you save money on electricity too.

The Load-Shedding Solution is an affordable 'temporal' solution for an average home in South Africa during the 4-8 hour load-shedding period and is also expandable to solar. It does not replace your Eskom electricity, it simply charges up a battery, and when there is load-shedding, you use that saved charge to power your home load. But you can also upgrade it easily to solar energy at a later stage when you can afford it.

The Load-Shedding Solution can power your lights, LED TVs, DSTV HD decoder, media box, video game console for your kids’ entertainment, wifi router, cell phone chargers, food processor, treadmill, security system, fax, and laptops can often work simultaneously. Check out this list of common household appliances and wattage.  Click here.

A NOTE ON FOOD PREPARATION

Any electrical appliance for heating draws much power. You can run your stove on a generator or a substantial battery-powered Load-Shedding Solution system, but more expensive, but a gas stove is a much better option.

A gas stove makes enormous sense if you’re tired of having sandwiches for supper. You can get a handy four-plate gas hob for about R2 200 or a one- or two-plate gas burner between R250 and R350.

How to install it, and can I connect it to my home Distribution Box("DB")?

It is a Plug and Play straightforward to set up—no need for an electrician. You plug into the output of your home electricity socket. The unit charges from Eskom when there is electricity, and when there is no electricity, you switch it on, and it supplies your home through another output socket.

You can also connect the system to your home DB, but you will need a qualified electrician for such advanced connections. We can also connect you with an electrician in your area. You can join the system to your DB, which can work, but we recommend a system with 3000 WATTAGE because the wires in your house consume some of the power during transmission.

Can the system be upgraded to a higher wattage and to solar at a later stage?

Yes, the system is upgradable to solar.

Yes, you can increase the power by adding another battery in parallel, creating a power bank.

How to maximise your inverter's battery life?

Please leave your inverter kit plugged in and turned on. It will keep your batteries at constant full charge – this is the best state to keep them in.

Suppose there is no load shedding after a few weeks. The acid will start to sulphate on the top of the battery, so please do the following:

Once every 1-2 months, please unplug the inverter from the wall and let it run until the inverter starts beeping, then immediately plug it back in. Doing so will circulate the acid and tremendously increase your battery cycle life.

Is there any protection when Eskom electricity comes back suddenly?

The Load-Shedding Solution inverter has overcharge and over-discharge protection for longer battery life. The unit will protect your household against Eskom electricity spikes.

What is the delivery time?

THIS PRODUCT IS ON BACKORDER DUE TO HIGH DEMAND IN SOUTH AFRICA - DISPATCHED/COLLECTED IN: 20-25 BUSINESS DAYS

The standard delivery time can be 3-5 business days to 4 weeks.

(Excluding – Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays)

We do not hold stock of most items displayed on our websites. Products can run out with our suppliers so lead times could vary.

In a temporary out-of-stock situation, you can cancel the order and be fully refunded or maintain the sale subject to a later delivery.

What is the warranty on THE LOAD-SHEDDING SOLUTION?

Twelve a months warranty on the inverter and 12 months on the affordable lead-acid batteries. They are most affordable than lithium batteries which last longer and are most efficient in energy storage. We wanted an affordable solution that can be upgraded later when you can afford to.

Lead-acid batteries produce hydrogen, and they must be adequately ventilated. The battery rate is 150-200 cycles at 50% DoD (Depth of Discharge). With Stage 4 load shedding, these cycles can get used up quite quickly. Once the batteries have completed 150 cycles, the warranty will become void as the batteries have reached the end of their life.
